Tests & Results

Blood tests:

Please note that our healthcare assistants can only order blood tests that have been requested by a doctor or in a letter from the hospital or consultant, where the hospital must provide the forms. That way, the results will go back to the consultant who requested the tests. Please bring these forms to your appointment; otherwise, you will be turned away. If one of our GP’s at the surgery has requested you have a blood sample there is no need to bring form to your appointment unless you are attended the prebooked out of hours clinics.
Blood tests are only taken when clinically indicated and in line with NHS guidelines.
Results:

Test results are received from the laboratories in the morning, and unless they are urgent, it can take up to 3-5 days for them to be reported to us.

Please call for test results after 11am.

If the results are for your consultant, and you have them on Mychart, and you have questions regarding the results, please go back to your consultant for clarification.

Abnormal result –

If your result is found to be abnormal then we will contact you and advise you of any action to be taken; this could be that the doctor or nurse would like to see you, further tests are required, or that a prescription has been issued.

Normal result –

We will not contact you if the result is normal or doesn’t require further action but we advise you to contact the surgery after 5-7 days to confirm that the result has been received.
